D.C. event on Endangered Species Act and PLF’s Utah prairie dog case

On June 2, PLF and the Competitive Enterprise Institute will be hosting a lunchtime event in D.C. The event will be in the Capitol Visitor’s Center and starts at 11:45 am. The event will highlight our challenge on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Property Owners to the unconstitutional Utah prairie dog regulation. As readers will recall, that case led to a federal court striking down an endangered species regulation as exceeding the federal government’s constitutional powers for the first time. That case is now on appeal. Look for more on the appeal when PLF files its brief on May 18.

The June 2nd event will feature U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah); U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah); Jason Rylander of Defenders of Wildlife; Rob Gordon, Senior Advisor for Endangered Species to the House Natural Resources Committee; and yours truly. We’ll be discussing whether the decision was correct, what limits the Constitution places on federal regulations, and whether there are better ways to protect species than the Endangered Species Act’s burdensome approach.
