Wrapping up National School Choice Week 2015

January 30, 2015 | By JOSHUA THOMPSON

All this week we joined thousands of teachers, students, schools, and organizations in celebrating National School Choice Week.  This is the fourth consecutive year that PLF has celebrated National School Choice Week, and, I think, this was our best celebration yet.  In case you missed it, here’s a recap of all that we did to celebrate school choice:

We put out this video where PLF staff explained why they support school choice.  In conjunction with the video, we asked you on Facebook why you support school choice. The response has been overwhelming. The comment with the most likes by the end of the week will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.  And many from PLF were tweeting about school choice all week.

In addition, I was joined by Andrew Coulson, Director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom on the PLF podcast. PLF Attorney Mark Miller and I penned this op-ed for the New Jersey Star-Ledger on the potential benefits of educational tax credits in that state. And we had many blog posts discussing various school choice issues, including: Ralph Kasarda on the many different methods of school choice; Jonathan Wood on the fiscal benefits of choice in education; Wen Fa on the benefits to families; Mark Miller on school choice in Florida; Ethan Blevins on charter schools in Washington state; and, me on California charter schools, school choice in Colorado; and the success of school choice in New Hampshire.

National School Choice Week is designed to jump start discussions on school choice throughout the country. Here at PLF we believe in school choice because, well, that’s in part what we spent this week explaining.  There are so many reasons to support school choice.  School choice is the right thing for students and families, and we will continue to defend choice programs throughout the country.  As PLF President Rob Rivett said, “Every child deserves a chance to succeed.”
