Pacific Legal Foundation—the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty—seeks a highly professional, detail-oriented, self-starting Bookkeeper to provide direct support to the Director of Human Resources and Chief Operating Officer in matters of accounting, finance, and human resources.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for maintaining clean and organized financial records in accordance with general accounting practices, and for supporting PLF’s finance and human resources activities more generally.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Perform daily, monthly, and year-end account reconciliation
  • Audit and process credit card bills; respond to vendor inquiries; reconcile vendor statements; research and correct discrepancies; and maintain 1099s
  • Administer accounts payable, including but not limited to processing of invoices and vendor payments and properly coding general ledger items
  • Prepare bank deposits and assist in month-end closing
  • Assist in payroll processing
  • Maintain expenses and client billings related to PLF litigation
  • Assist with new employee hiring, onboarding, and offboarding
  • Create, update, and revise employee records
  • Assist in ensuring that procedures and reporting are compliant with PLF policy and applicable law
  • Provide day-to-day assistance to HR and to the COO as needed
  • Provide general assistance and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a BA/BS in accounting or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience, and will possess a demonstrated record of:

  • Heightened attention to detail and a deep disdain for inaccuracy
  • The ability to handle multiple assignments, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A self-starter’s mentality and a can-do attitude—can tackle the job at hand with minimal supervision and unafraid to ask questions when needed
  • Flexibility, dependability, helpfulness, and positivity
  • Willingness to take direction and humility to accept suggestions for improvement; sound judgment about when to consult others before proceeding
  • A high degree of comfort with technology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and basic computer tasks

Pacific Legal Foundation identifies and litigates important legal issues to set landmark precedent that will benefit Americans nationwide.
