Coastal Commission denies downtown San Diego CDP

San Diegans are familiar with the open lots at the foot of Broadway and Harbor in downtown;  this is prime real estate (and the site of the former Lane Field, home of the then-Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres), and the Port of San Diego has been wanting to develop the lots for some time.  The Port put together a plan to build two luxury hotels (with a project price tag of $400 million).  But the Commission last week deadlocked 5-5 over approving the coastal development permit, fearing increased traffic and parking.
