Wen Fa to speak on PLF’s First Amendment Supreme Court case to University of Minnesota Law School Federalist Society
Attorney Wen Fa will talk about his role in litigating Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky, a First Amendment case pending before the Supreme Court of the United States. Minnesota Voters Alliance concerns Minnesota’s broad ban on political apparel at the polling place.
The law imposes criminal and civil penalties on voters who wear shirts that promote a group with “recognizable political views.” That means voters are subject to criminal penalties if they wear shirts with a logo of the Tea Party, Chamber of Commerce, AFL-CIO, NAACP, and countless other groups. The Supreme Court will decide whether Minnesota’s ban on political apparel violates the overbreadth doctrine of the First Amendment.
The speech will take place from 12:15 pm-1:15 pm.
