Major victory for property owners in California

The California Supreme Court today upheld the constitutionality of AB 26, which eliminates the state’s Redevelopment Agencies–the entities responsible for eminent domain abuse in California. At the same time, the Court struck down AB 27, which provided a new mechanism for the Agencies to come back into existence. Although the court’s ruling did not address eminent domain, or prohibit redevelopment agencies from returning in the future in some new form, the elimination of these agencies is a major victory for home and business owners in the state.
