PLF attorney to be guest on KQED's "Forum"

February 07, 2014 | By PAUL BEARD

I will be a guest on KQED Public Radio’s Forum on Monday, February 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  KQED is San Francisco’s NPR affiliate, which broadcasts throughout Northern California.

Listen on 88.5 FM or Comcast channel 960 in San Francisco, 89.3 FM in Sacramento, 88.3 FM in Santa Rosa and 88.1 FM in Martinez.

We’ll be discussing the legal battle over public access at Martins Beach in San Mateo County. Various groups want coastal landowner Vinod Khosla to just give away an easement across his property and to the beach — obviously, without paying for it.  One such group already lost its legal battle to open up his property to the public.

Another lawsuit — this one, by Surfrider — demands that he get a “coastal development permit” before doing anything to protect his private property against trespassers, including locking his gate to the private road off Highway 1.  This lawsuit appears simply to be a tactic to force the landowner through costly permitting and legal procedures before the infamous California Coastal Commission.
