PLF and the Center for Equal Opportunity recently submitted these comments to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.  The Sanitary Commission is considering enacting a contracting program that grants preferences to businesses on the basis of race.  Here is a snippet from the letter:

At every step of the contracting process, it is clear that there are better tailored remedies than using racial preferences. If companies are being excluded from bidding because of unrealistic or irrational bonding or bundling requirements, then those requirements should be changed for all companies, regardless of the race of the owner.

PLF hopes these comments will help persuade the Sanitary Commission against infringing on the equal protection rights of Marylanders. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you apprised of any developments.
