PLF sues for gray wolf status review

Today we filed suit to force the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct a legally mandated status review for the gray wolf.  The gray wolf is currently listed as endangered throughout the lower forty-eight states, but the Service has not completed a status review for the wolf in the last five years as the Endangered Species Act requires.

Back in November, we had success in a similar suit when the Service announced that it would conduct overdue status reviews for four Pacific Northwest species, including the northern spotted owl, in response to PLF litigation.  Without periodic review, species can remain listed, even while new scientific data shows that they should not be.  This results in unnecessary restrictions, which burden property owners and put a damper on economic activity.
