R.I.P. William Letwin

I was sorry to hear of the passing of William Letwin, whose book Economic Policy In America: The Evolution of The Sherman Anti-Trust Act is an excellent examination of the origins of antitrust laws and their antecedents. Alberto Mingardi has a look at his work at , but he doesn’t mention another interesting distinction Letwin has. When Prof. David E. Bernstein was working on his book Rehabilitating Lochner, he and I tried to find the earliest example we could of a scholar defending Lochner. The winner of that trophy was Letwin, who wrote favorably of the case in 1979.
