Today marks the 220th birthday of the District of Columbia’s prominent position in our country’s history: on this day in 1790, Washington was established as the seat of the federal government.  The founding fathers must have had incredible foresight to choose its swampy climate, given the volumes of hot air spouted by many of the politicians and regulators, who two centuries later, call the District home.

In an article recently posted on reason.com, John Stossel (journalist, author, and host of Stossel on the Fox Business Network) writes that our nation is shackled by “imposed, top-down rules formed in the brains of meddling bureaucrats who think they know better than we how to manage our lives.”  Here at PLF, we work tirelessly to combat those rules in areas from economic liberty to property rights, and preserves what D.C’s namesake, George Washington called “the sacred fire of liberty.”  So happy 220th birthday, D.C.!  We’ll get that cake to you once we fill out all the necessary paperwork.
