Equality & Opportunity

Dean McGee is an attorney in Pacific Legal Foundation’s Equality and Opportunity practice, where he litigates nationwide to defend constitutional rights.

Before joining PLF, Dean served as senior counsel and director of the Educational Freedom practice at the Liberty Justice Center, representing students, educators, and parents in cases advancing educational opportunity, transparency, and free expression in schools. Earlier in his career, he clerked for the Honorable William H. Pauley III in the Southern District of New York and practiced complex commercial litigation at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. He was later named partner at a firm in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he served as outside general counsel and trial counsel for individuals and businesses throughout the Hudson Valley.

Dean has been drawn to constitutional law and public interest work since law school and takes pride in his experience defending the rights of the accused as a law clerk with the Legal Aid Society, helping secure asylum for refugees from Sudan and El Salvador, and working in clinics serving veterans and homeless youth. Long inspired by attorneys who use the law to protect constitutional rights—from those who argued Brown v. Board of Education to his PLF colleagues—he hopes to honor that tradition by continuing to stand up for the rights of ordinary people at no cost.

Dean graduated first in his class from St. John’s University School of Law, where he served on the St. John’s Law Review, and earned his undergraduate degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo. He lives in New York’s Hudson Valley with his wife and three children.

Dean is licensed to practice law in the State of New York.
