How California Republicans are encouraging eminent domain abuse

The L.A. Times tells the distressing story of how and why Republicans in the California legislature are holding back efforts to protect the state's property owners against eminent domain abuse:

[Gov. Jerry] Brown's campaign to shut down redevelopment agencies and direct $1.7 billion of their funds to help balance the state budget has stalled in Sacramento at the hands of Republicans, with Huff as their point man. GOP leaders call their proposal to save the agencies the "Huff compromise."

Huff's proposal would lengthen the life of the redevelopment agencies rather than scrap them. The Republicans included it in the list of policies they are demanding that Brown adopt before they will support his budget package.
