Established in 1972, the California Coastal Commission has earned a reputation as the most powerful—and oppressive—land use authority in the United States.
In response to prolific property and civil rights violations, Pacific Legal Foundation has filed more than 150 lawsuits against the embattled agency (including the landmark 1987 case Nollan v. CCC, PLF’s first Supreme Court victory).
PLF attorneys are now preparing to take on the Commission in the California Supreme Court on behalf of Shear Development—once again challenging the CCC’s property rights violations and unlawful denial of a building permit.
Join Louis Mirante, vice president of public policy at the Bay Area Council, and PLF attorneys Larry Salzman, Jim Burling, Jeremy Talcott, and Jeffrey McCoy on January 13, for an in-depth look at the CCC’s controversial legacy and the courageous Americans who have fought back with PLF’s support.
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the CCC’s tactics and motivations and come away armed with policy solutions to curb the Commission’s power once and for all.
