America’s Housing Crisis: A Dynamic Exchange of Ideas

Date: February 26, 2025
Location: Virtual via Zoom
Time: 3:00 p.m. EST/12:00 p.m. PST

The latest housing research shows America has a shortage of somewhere between 1.5 million and 6.5 million homes. Unsurprisingly, 67% of Americans believe homeownership is an unrealistic milestone for young people.

There’s no denying we’re experiencing a significant housing crisis in this country, but the policy prescriptions are far from settled.

On February 26, we’re bringing together Richard Rothstein and Jim Burling—two of the nation’s leading voices on the matter—to share their unique perspectives on the crisis, including the role developers play in housing policy, as well as topics like zoning and rent control.

Richard Rothstein is a distinguished fellow of the Economic Policy Institute, a senior fellow (emeritus) at the Thurgood Marshall Institute of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and bestselling author of The Color of Law and, more recently, Just Action.

Richard will be joined by PLF vice president of legal affairs Jim Burling, author of Nowhere to Live: The Hidden Story of America’s Housing Crisis, for an hour-long virtual discussion moderated by Nolan Gray, research director at California YIMBY.

We hope you can join.
