Mail Clerk

Pacific Legal Foundation—the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty—seeks a highly reliable, accurate, and self-starting Mail Clerk to provide part-time support for PLF’s operations.

This is a part-time role based in PLF’s Sacramento office and reporting to the Director of Administration. Desired standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. You will be responsible for executing a wide range of tasks and duties to help keep our office running smoothly and efficiently. Some of your duties will be the same each day, while others will vary widely depending on the needs of the moment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Efficiently sort, open, and distribute incoming mail according to set procedures.
  • Accurately count, copy, and distribute daily check batches.
  • Ensure office equipment is functioning and make service calls as needed.
  • Inventory and order basic supplies and printed materials as needed.
  • Answer phones at the front desk when the receptionist is off or on break.
  • Assist with office events including all-staff events, celebrations, etc.
  • Pick up and drop off mail from the Post Office as needed.
  • Run errands for all departments as needed.
  • Assist employees with projects as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this role will have some experience in an office environment or equivalent, and will possess a demonstrated record of:

  • Outstanding punctuality and attendance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail—can handle multiple assignments, set priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy in your projects.
  • A self-starter’s mentality and a can-do attitude—can tackle the job at hand with minimal supervision and unafraid to ask questions when needed.
  • A high degree of comfort with technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and basic computer tasks.
  • A customer service mindset—ready and willing to help employees, clients, callers, and guests.
  • Unwavering professionalism, discretion, and integrity at all times.

The position requires:

  • The ability to work a regular schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (additional hours may be required on occasion).
  • Regular use of hands to sort paper products.
  • The ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • The ability to stoop, kneel, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • A reliable car for retrieving/delivering mail and running errands.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
