[Past Event] – Doctrinal Crossroads: Major Questions, Non-Delegation, and Chevron Deference

Date: January 25, 2024
Location: Boston, MA
Time: All Day, beginning 9:00 a.m. EST

Pacific Legal Foundation and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy seek papers for “Doctrinal Crossroads: Major Questions, Non-Delegation, and Chevron Deference,” a symposium to be held in early 2024 in Boston.

In soliciting papers on these ideas, we’re seeking a deeper examination of the origins of the major questions doctrine, its theoretical underpinnings, and its compatibility (or incompatibility) with earlier precedent.

Proposal Submission Details

Please submit a brief proposal no longer than 300 words that describes your thesis and how your paper will contribute to the legal discussion regarding the non-delegation, major questions, and Chevron deference doctrines. Proposals should be submitted by August 15, 2023, to Elizabeth Slattery at eslattery@pacificlegal.org. Early proposal submission is encouraged. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and approvals will allow authors to begin work early.

Honorarium and Other Support

Authors of accepted papers will receive a $2,500 honorarium. In addition, papers will be presented at a symposium in early 2024 and published in Per Curiam, a special online symposium edition of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. We will cover the cost of hotel accommodations and reasonable travel expenses to the symposium in Boston.

Final Paper Submission Details

There is a 5,000 word limit on papers. Draft submissions are due December 15, 2023, so that we can circulate them to panelists in advance of the symposium. Authors may revise their papers following the symposium, with final submissions due within two weeks in order to be published in Per Curiam, an online symposium edition of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.
