Loren A. Seehase is an attorney in Pacific Legal Foundation’s Property Rights group. There she litigates cases to protect private property interests rights in courts across the country.
Prior to joining Pacific Legal Foundation, Loren was a senior counsel with the Liberty Justice Center, where she litigated cases to protect the rights to free speech, bear arms, private property, and due process, and against unlawful search and seizure. Among her cases was a challenge to the federal “Swampbuster” law, in CTM Holdings v. USDA, that unconstitutionally conditions the receipt of USDA benefits on conserving any “wetlands” without just compensation. She also authored amicus briefs in major Supreme Court decisions such as Loper Bright v. Raimondo and SEC v. Jarkesy.
Before public interest, Loren was in private practice as a litigator for a top Hawaii firm, where she practiced in the firm’s Construction Law, Real Estate, Land Use & Eminent Domain, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Appeals practice groups, primarily in the areas of land use, zoning, construction law, environmental law, and constitutional law. She also represented clients in the areas of ocean law, business and commercial disputes, product liability, and employment law.
While in private practice, Loren was selected by her peers to the 2023 and 2022 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America list in the practice areas of commercial litigation, litigation-construction, and litigation-real estate. She was also selected in 2022, 2021, and 2020 by the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list in land use and zoning.
She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law. Loren was a staff writer for the University of Hawaii Law Review, a constitutional law teaching assistant, and a research assistant for an intellectual property treatise republication. She was a summer associate at Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert in Hawaii, working on both transactional and litigation matters, and a law clerk/extern for then-Chief Judge Lisa M. Ginoza of the State of Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals.
While in law school, Loren was also a top oralist at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The University of Hawaii team was named the 2015 Jessup Pacific Regional Champion, where Loren won Best Oralist out of over 100 competitors and the team placed second in Best Memorials. Upon graduating, Loren earned an Environmental Law Certificate, an area of interest kindled in part by her appreciation of, and concern for, Hawaii’s natural resources.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University, cum laude.
Loren currently resides in Florida with her husband and four children. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, gardening, cooking, and coming up with home improvement projects.
Loren is a member of the bar only in the states of Florida and Hawaii.
