Separation of Powers

Nathan Kane works in Pacific Legal Foundation’s Separation of Powers practice, which fights to protect individual liberty from governmental abuse.

Nate became interested in pro-liberty litigation while an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he first encountered the Supreme Court’s landmark cases about government structure. He learned early on that liberty is never safe unless power is divided and checked. Nate’s commitment to liberty only deepened when he read Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis—a story foretelling the dangers of technocracy.

After earning his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, Nate served as a law clerk for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. After that, he served as the Deputy Director of the WMC Litigation Center, a public-interest law firm affiliated with Wisconsin’s Chamber of Commerce. In that role, he litigated separation-of-powers issues under the Wisconsin Constitution.

When not at work, Nate enjoys running, reading horror novels, and collecting old things. A lover of history, he also enjoys traveling the world visiting libraries and archives.

Nate is member of the bar only in the state of Wisconsin.
