California Supreme Court to issue redevelopment decision tomorrow

The California Supreme Court has announced that it will issue its decision in California Redevelopment Association v. Matosantos tomorrow morning. This is the case in which various government officials are challenging the constitutionality of two laws signed by Gov. Brown this summer which abolish the state’s existing redevelopment agencies and provide for their restructuring. Although the laws don’t end the abuse of eminent domain by private developers, they may represent the most important step forward for property owners in this state in a generation.
